I can and I fought for that right. I’m twenty-one and within my life time I have watched gay rights become more and more prevelant in England. With thanks, largely, to the community built in Pride events around the country.
There are still thousands of LGBT people struggling in this country, specifically trans people and you have no idea what a community can do for a person in that much internal pain.
But pride events are just a party! You all just get drunk.
Thank god. They started as a series of riots. If pride events become a party it’s a sign that good things are happening in the country they’re held. When people can dress how they like, kiss who they want and march for what they believe in… that’s positive.
What’s the point then? If you have the rights now?
To remind people that we’re still here. But more importantly, to remind the world that it is possible to be tolerant. There are places in the western world where prides are torn apart by protesters, and worse… there are places where pride events are still torn apart by the police and everyone is arrested.
Our pride events… our parties… they are the hope and a sign that good things come to those who fight. So no, I’m not taking off my rainbow dress. I won’t stand down and when they scream “Hey hey, ho ho!” I’m sure as hell screaming back “Transphobia had got to go!”
And if you try to stop me… remember that you’re part of the problem. Even if you’re LGBT.
For anyone wondering, this is amazing enrichment for the animal and a great way to involve guests! The lions aren’t forced to play with the rope if they don’t want to, and these guys (and anyone else who tries this out) have an awesome close up and hands on experience, all without having to come in direct contact with the cat!
